I downloaded the studio version maybe the the other version might have been better and have been giving it a trial run. I like that Audirvana can have my music library correlate with my Qobuz subscription, handily putting all of it in one place. I also realise that Roon does this as well but it’s expensive. I’ve use JRMC in the past but have struggled to get things working, especially my media library. JRiver will also connect with Qobuz apparently. So what have I got and what am I looking for?
I have a Kaiser Baas Soundshift attached to my HiFi which accepts DLNA connections and it does work with my iPad One major issue is that the majority of my music is classical and while I have it very neatly catalogued on the HD in folders, Audirvana doesn’t present it this way and I suspect that Roon would be similar.
So which should I get? I’ve used JRMC in the past but found that their interface was not as intuitive as I would have liked. Based on what I’ve got and what I want, what would you recommend and why? Location: Michigan, USA. I wouldn’t bother with Plex. It’s awesome for video content, but it’s really not made for music.
As for your others, the only one I have used is Roon, and I love it, but I do suspect it would have trouble with your classical library.
You could give the free trial a go and see how it handles it. I’ve been super happy with my lifetime subscription, but I got in before the price increases. However, if I was presented with that option now, I would still do it. DyersEve , Jun 29, Rolltide likes this. Location: Katy, TX. I use JRiver, but it’s more of Swiss Army knife than it is strictly for music. I use it mostly for audio, but my brother uses it mostly for video. You can link a tablet or a smart phone to control it, so you don’t really need to output to video to play music, but it’s best to use the video interface for setting it up.
As far as setting it up, you could consult the forums at the JRiver for instructions on how to set it up. There are countless thread there. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for ask, somebody will have a solution. But JRiver is really nice if you want to cue up albums. It’s really easy to add albums or songs at the end of the playlist.
You could get a streaming deck, but I have computers laying around and JRiver will run on even the most modest systems. It’ll run on a raspberry pi, so really it doesn’t need much at all. Yes it does take some time to get it work properly, but once you have it set up, it’s easy to maintain and just works really well. Spider Member. Bernard23 Active Member. Seems pretty clear to me: that’s BS. Do we have to understand the signal won’t be transparent? That can’t be a good thing in any way.

But whatever the Audirvana is and amirm likes the special sauce in this case, albeit he usually wants bit perfect , it’s not bit perfect.
Rottmannash Major Contributor Forum Donor. BaaM ‘s claims in fact, Damien Plisson’s own claim about Audirvana sweetening the sound is absolutely accurate. It’s not that Plisson cannot provide bitperfect output — he can. Audirvana has been on the market for years. To be able to differentiate from other players, Audirvana has to either add features which others don’t have or Audirvana has to be cheaper or Audirvana has to offer “better” sound. Damien has chosen to offer “better” sound.
In my opinion, he’s been quite successful. Swinsian, Calibri, Decibel, Fidelia all sound identical on music which they can play back at native resolution Decibel doesn’t handle all bitrates of DSD. I haven’t tested Bitperfect only because I never use iTunes but from repots it falls into the same group. They are all bitperfect in standard configuration and hence identical. Audirvana sounds different, arguably “better”. BTW, I’m not an Audirvana owner or a fan, just own most of the competitors and have trialed intensively several versions of Audirvana.
Audirvana is on v3. Audirvana is also only two activations hate this, I have three Macs I use often and another two I use occasionally. Outside of cost, I didn’t like the playlist functionality auto-updates to my folders didn’t work, filtering a library is an way to interact with music. In contrast, Swinsian offers splendid, Mac-native playlist functionality. Create as many playlists as you like. Playlist interfaces are lightning fast, technically detailed as you’d like with a native Mac look.
It’s easy to view and easy to update files whether you add new metadata or artwork externally or internally. Swinsian will semi-automatically fetch you album art itself from Last.
On the plus side for Audirvana, the DAC support and exclusive stream is rock solid and provides the most detailed information about the connection of any of the OS X players. Veri said:. JRIver Media Center is available for Mac OS X and Windows operating system users and allows the users to build their own media center in order to organize media files of all type.

I personally have my library in JRiver , which isn’t free, but I’ve been happily using it for many years. For paid, commercial products, we’ve got Roon and JRiver , with the former offering a better user experience than the latter but at considerably more expense. I am going back to ripping my old CDs and having my own local library. Audirvana Plus mentions 5 Tidal rewrote the PC program’s playback, thoughts? As I’ve said before, no real rival in terms of sound output quality.
Trust me or try it yourself they offer a free trial. Also, their motto is “Hear the Difference”. What are some alternatives? So I plan to begin reading about MC’s video portion, hoping that it’s being developed in directions that will work for us. Can you use an iPad in the music room to control the music files upstairs which are connected to the main PC? With this new M1 chip I think it is time to try. All of the Above.
